I always vow to achieve fast hands, knowing the reasoning behind, but it's not as easy to be consistent, not to mention to trajectory's angles play a role, I think -- meaning if you can't get to the ball at the perfect position, your setting angle (for me) flattens a little (rainbow when you want high), which means the ball travels a bit too fast with fast hands. Any ideas on how to improve on that? How to always set at the right trajectory angle? Thanks a lot.

I've been hitting straight up and everytime I try to spike (Never actually had a good hit yet) When I come down, my shoulder is heading, specifically that bone.. So ima start opening up my arms and hitting it at a arched angle now

Nice. I say it all the time. I didn't even realize how it affects me and others around me mentally. I'll stop saying it and will observe what difference it makes. I think it'll be a good change. This will probably translate to game play as well. It comes down to wanting to executing everything perfectly. Try to be less critical and just move on from the point. It's not to say you don't try to learn from mistakes. Just don't expect perfection. And just the opposite will happen. When you allow yourself to make mistakes, you'll be more experimental and hopeful gain more experience.

I'm glad I came across this video because its much relative for me also. What are some other things I may say, or somehow acknowledge the situation, in a way that will bring about communication and feedback between our teammates where it was lacking that lead to the situation in the first place? I'm working on my peoples skills while at the same time will be moving onto a higher skill-set than I am currently on, so I will start off as the weaker point in my match teammates.

I ,ve been opossite many years and every hit is different. It depends on if the setter is located near the 2 position or near the 3 position. Opposites most of the times have to fix the set so it depends from where you get the ball and where you want to put the ball. If we have to state a rule... I would say the approach is over the line +- 50 cms

I asked a collegiate coach a few years ago about swinging like this & he said it was wrong. He said the shoulders should be equal height & the non hitting shoulder should not dip lower than the hitting should. But clearly swinging this way allows for an even higher contact point, as well as involving the pectoral muscles to create additional power. As a volleyball coach myself, I teach your method all the time & the players continue to have amazing results.

This is seven years old....about how long I have been arguing with coaches to follow-thru "across the chest"... At our daughters H.S. I did an unscientific non-professional side by side hitting study, using the Boys baseball Speed gun... what ensued; When the girls followed thru across the chest...the ball was faster, and they said it felt like they were hitting the ball harder. One of the Girls (our daughter /DS /OH | 5'6" (yes; 5'6" OH (her vert. is amazing) follows through across the chest.. this also helps with quik line hits and doesn't hinder her ability to "go" short, to the 3M line. I implore you to break your young hitters habit of pulling the arm down her side. She is losing power and will have Scapula strain and shoulder issues... it is argued the Tennis server is the nearest to the VB attack swing... I think its a toss up from throwing a ball and Tennis. both, tennis and Base(soft)Ball finish across the chest...
